to the Malvern Local Group of the Worcestershire Wildlife Trust
The Malvern Local Group of the Worcestershire Wildlife Trust raises awareness of wildlife and our members are actively involved in its conservation. We do this by arranging working parties at local reserves and arranging trips, walks and ambles. Please see the What’s On page. We also have a programme of talks that runs from September to May. Members and non-members are warmly welcomed to our programme of indoor and outdoor events. Details of the talks up to January 2027 are available. The titles of all the talks can be seen here.
At October’s meeting, on Thursday 1st, Alan English and Frank Tunbridge were due to talk to talk to us about Big Cats in the UK. Unfortunately for us, but happily for him ,Frank was ambushed by a surprise birthday party so Alun was alone. He talked about animal releases and about the ways big cats might have been introduced into Britain. Alan showed images of spoor and kills and explained how one can differentiate between cat kills and kills by other predators. He presented evidence of big cats living in the British countryside. Personally, I found the kills evidence more convincing than the sightings. After his talk several people talked about their own big cat sightings.
On November 5th 2026, Dr Rachel Kruft Welton will talk about Spiders of Britain. Rachel is an author and professional biology and science tutor with a research interest in spiders, both living and fossilised. She will give us an insight into the lives of spiders in Britain and their conservation.
Our meetings are held at the Lyttelton Rooms, 6 Church Street, Malvern, WR14 2AY. They start at 7:30pm and we aim to end by 9:30. Entrance costs £3:00 and includes refreshments, cash only, at the door, please. There is no charge for children. Attendance is limited to 100 persons. There are several car parks in walking distance, including Waitrose, which is free. There is free street parking too.
